High-Temperature Plasticizer for 105°C Cable Systems
Trioctyl Trimellitate TOTM is a heat-resistant plasticizer for PVC compounds that operate under sustained thermal conditions. Its molecular formula is C33H54O6 and its CAS number is 3319-31-1. Appearance ranges from colorless to light-yellow transparent oily liquid. Purity is ≥99%, density is 0.984–0.991 g/cm³, acid value is ≤0.15 mg KOH/g, and platinum-cobalt color is ≤40.
Thermal Retention as the Main Selection Factor
- The principal applications are 105°C wire and cable compounds, heat-resistant PVC articles, sheets, and other soft products used at elevated temperature. TOTM has very low volatility and good resistance to heat aging. These properties help the formulation retain plasticizer performance during extended exposure to heat.
- For high-temperature cable materials, the purchasing decision is strongly linked to plasticizer retention and aging resistance rather than only to initial softness. Trioctyl Trimellitate TOTM is therefore aimed at a different formulation need from ordinary general-purpose plasticizers. It is suitable for advanced cable compounds and other PVC products that must remain stable during prolonged thermal service. In some applications, it may replace polyester plasticizers.
